Conservation Foundation Hires New Director for the Glendale
Outdoor Leadership School
Glendale, S.C., June 23,
2009…Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF) is pleased to announce that Melissa
Parrish Pittman has joined the staff as the new Director of the Glendale
Outdoor Leadership School (GOLS) in Glendale, S.C. Mrs. Pittman is a Spartanburg native,
Converse graduate, former educator, outdoor enthusiast and has most recently
worked with The Spartanburg Art Museum for over 12 years.
Pittman, whose parents live in Glendale, is
enthusiastic about the opportunity to work in Glendale for
PCF. “The Glendale Outdoor Leadership School is a
vibrant part of the economic fabric of Spartanburg. Our facility, its programs, and the natural
beauty and bounty of our area are so unique.
As we move forward as a community it is programs such as GOLS that
enrich our area for current and future residents.”
The mission of GOLS is to enhance quality of life
and personal growth through outdoor recreation and education. By providing
active living opportunities, we promote wellness and lifestyle changes. GOLS
offers a wide variety of programs for children and adults alike, including
kayaking, fishing, mountain biking and adventure climbing. The school is
located just outside or Spartanburg, S.C., in Glendale, a
historic former mill town.
Natalie Cappuccio Britt, Executive Director of
Palmetto Conservation Foundation is, “excited to have Melissa working with us
as part of the PCF team.” Founded in 1989, PCF is a statewide, non-profit organization with offices
in Columbia and Glendale. PCF assists South
Carolina’s
communities to grow and prosper while maintaining local character and quality
of life. This involves protecting natural areas through land trust assistance
or through local government programs, preserving Revolutionary War
battlefields, and developing greenways and the Palmetto Trail.
