Volkswalk

October 9th, 2010

Start time: 8:30am to 1pm

End time: 4pm

The Asheville Amblers and PCF are hosting a Volkswalk on the Peak to Prosperity Passage of the Palmetto Trail.

What is a Volkswalk?  It is a 10 kilometer (6.2 miles) non-competitive walk that American GIs brought home from Germany in the 1960s. Since the distance from Peak to Pomaria is that exact mileage, it’s in the heart of the German settled area, and October (fest) is the perfect month for hiking, what could be better?

Walkers must check in at the registration table (no charge) at the Pomaria trailhead between 8:30 am and 1pm.  A shuttle will take walkers to the Alston trailhead.  At the conclusion of the hike, food and drink will be available at family prices. Join us for a beautiful fall hike and learn more about the German and railroad history of the area.

Bratwurst and other refreshments will be for sale at the event.
